Rosie Day

Rosie Day was heading off to Corecamp in Madrid, Spain to be a Junior Camp Monitor for 4 weeks.

We Spoke to Rosie Before she left, keen to find out about her opportunity, she let us know that her cousins have attended the camp before and she was enthusiastic to go to  “improve my Spanish and make new friends there”. The application process was extensive with Rosie having to fill out an application form, make a 3 minute video of herself and go through an online interview in order to be selected to become a Junior Camp Monitor.

Those who attend the camp are Spanish people wanting to learn English, Rosie has done really well in Spanish classes, this year she gained a Progress Award in French and Spanish, and she feels confident that her current level of knowledge in Spanish will be enough to start with as she hopes to learn more when she is out there.

When Rosie was selected she got an email to let her know, that made her feel “excited” and  “that it doesn't feel like it actually will happen”. When asking her how she feels about going, she said that she  “is excited but is a little nervous about knowing no-one, she is, however, confident she will be OK.

Danielle Taylor

The road to Danielle’s achievement starts off very sweetly. Danielle has been learning the BSL alphabet from another pupil on the way to and from school on the school bus. When we spoke to her she told us that she “didn't set out to learn the alphabet, but once the other pupil started to teach me, I became quite interested and enthusiastic”.

Because of her interest, Danielle was enrolled on a BSL course, it was not easy but she has persevered and completed the course. Danielle's family are incredibly proud of her and were delighted to see her “happy for having achieved something so good by herself”.

Eilidh Flanagan

With 3 golden tickets up for grabs from Lochgilphead golf club to attend the Women's Scottish open. Eilidh set about the task of writing a project on the subject of  “what you do to help your club out and how you encourage people” as this was what was required to enter. When she received the email, Eilidh was “so happy and couldn't believe it”, she explained to us that waiting to know if she had won was really nerve wracking and she couldn't think of anything else!

Eilidh attended the televised Ladies Open at Carnoustie Golf Course with a large group of other winners, 4 of which were from Argyll and Bute. They received VIP treatment and were shown around the course, all the areas set up for the competition and the winners even got ‘Master Classes’ from Emily Pederson, a Danish professional golfer who took part in the tournament, Georgia Hall MBE, an English Professional golfer who played in the tournament, Georgia was the Ladies Open winner in 2018, and last but certainly not least, Annabel Dimmock, another English professional golfer who also took part in the tournament.

On wednesday, the practice day, Eilidh was even on live TV in the background of the camera shots taking part in the lessons.

Eilidh has a great day exploring the clubhouse, talking to all the different people, rubbing shoulders with the ladies taking part, exploring the tents, having her picture taken with the trophy and having her Masters Lesson.

Ruby-Jo Philips

Ruby-Jo Philips has continued to keep up her studies in music, she enrolled in and passed her Grade 5 Music Theory course through the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. This is a course Ruby-Jo took on as an evening class through the school term, she worked extremely hard to keep up to date with everything and, a whole year early she dealt with the pressure of her exam well.

When having a chat with Ruby-Jo, she said that she “was excited but nervous to take on the course, but she is really glad she passed” and she “ hopes to sit her performance exams in the near future”. Ruby-Jo is looking forward to continuing to learn even more in school in her music classes and lessons, she plans a career in music and we wish her all the best.

Well done girls!
