School Uniform

Lochgilphead High School believes that our uniform is essential to the ethos of our school community as it establishes a clear sense of identity, fosters a sense of inclusive belonging, and engenders both positive behaviour and self-discipline, which in turn supports teaching and learning.

Why School Uniform is Important

Equity

School uniforms reduce economic and social barriers between young people.

Uniforms are usually cheaper than other clothing.

Uniform prevents students feeling pressured to wear certain types of clothing.

Safety

School uniforms can increase student safety.

Uniforms make students easily identifiable and helps to spot anyone who should not be in the school.

Speed

Students don’t need to decide what to wear each day.

Wearing uniform allows students to get ready for school more quickly and could free up time to eat breakfast and get organised for the day ahead.

Community

When students are wearing their uniforms, they are also representing their schools. Uniforms provide a sense of belonging and create the opportunity for all to be included.

Focus

People tend to act differently depending on the clothing they are wearing.

When a student is wearing school uniform, the brain knows it is time to focus and learn.

Future

Wearing uniform prepares students for the workplace as most jobs will involve a dress-code or a uniform.
