Wider Achievement

This Term

Quite simply put, this term has been a whole school Wider Achievement. What an achievement it has been for pupils to come back after a year of such uncertainty, the pupils have eased into school again like they were never away. This shows the resilience of our children and young people is far stronger than anyone ever believed to have thought. The whole school has worked well as a team to return and get into the flow of things again.

Sports Week

Sports week has been a big success, stretched over a few days, the first day saw most of the children compete in 10 different sports.

Clan spirits were high with those taking part, fighting for the points they could earn for their clan. Kilmory took the 1st place slot with Duntrune, Dunadd and Carnasserie respectively. The kids taking part did so with gusto and earned a tremendous amount of points for their clan.

One of the titles that could also be worked for was that of Overall Champion, through typical West Coast of Scotland weather, mud and more mud, the effort to gain the points was palpable. The girls Overall Champion was awarded to Jasmine McPhie with 280 points out of a possible 420, The Boys Overall Champion was awarded to Murray MacDonald with a full house in points! Murray gained all 420 of the points available!

There were some records broken within the first day of sports, they were as follows:-

Lewis Cameron in S2 broke the long jump record of 4.59m set in 1990, by jumping 4.65m.

Murray MacDonald broke: Long jump, 4.73m, set in 2005 by jumping 5.40m.

High jump, 1.45m, set in 2004 by jumping 1.50m.

Shot putt, 10.33m, set in 2005 by throwing 13.10m.

Javelin, 25.60m, set in 2007 by throwing 28.22m.

Well done to Lewis and Murray!

Activities day

On Wednesday the 26th May, the whole school took part in an Activities day, the activities they could choose from were; Flamenco dancing, Art Attack, Yoga, Football, Green Day, Drama, Mountain biking, Hike and last, but certainly not least, Music Jam.

Activities were led by teachers and support staff and honestly, we are not sure who had a better time! It was a day for enjoying the -much needed- time spent with peers and the outstanding adult influencers that the school is home to, in a socially distanced and safe manner, of course. A day for lifting weights off of shoulders, allowing time and space to enjoy ourselves and forget about the rest of the world around us that has so often become overwhelming and strenuous for both pupils and staff. I am sure that I speak for everyone when I say that the day absolutely lifted the spirits of us all and it gave us all a vision of what used to be, but more poignantly what is to come. Looking forward, all our hard work, patience and resilience will have us boast these amazing times spent together more often. It satisfied a yearning for what used to be, and hopefully what is to come.

A huge well done and Thank You to the pupils and staff for making the 2 days of sports and activities one to remember, for all the right reasons.
