Forestry Pre-apprenticeship (6 months full-time employment)
The programme is funded by Skills Development Scotland with 8 places available for the upfront training induction commencing in June at SRUC Barony Campus, Dumfries.
All candidates need to be a minimum of 16 years old due to employment legislation and the machinery they will be operating. Our target audience is therefore 16 – 21-year-olds.
Employment placements will then follow for a period of 26 weeks working full-time from July onwards.
Apprenticeship rates of pay from 1st April 2024 will be £7.20 per hour standard rate, typically 40hrs per week for 26 weeks, with £1500 training delivered throughout the programme including certificated training tickets. Overtime is paid at 1.5 times standard rate of pay.
The upfront residential training induction held at SRUC Barony, Dumfries and will offer a range of activities and training as follows:
Certificate of Work Readiness (CWR SCQF Level 4)
Emergency First Aid + F
Health & Safety Awareness
Manual Handling Awareness
Introduction to Forestry Machinery
Introduction to Forestry Process
Brush Cutter
Introduction to Saws
Forestry simulator

Work Placement Opportunity
BAE Systems Glasgow
Work Experience programmes in May and June 2024 are open. Work Experience with BAE Systems is an excellent opportunity to inspire young people and give them an insight into real world skills used in our industry. The programmes encourage young people to explore their passion for engineering and technology and discover more about life at BAE Systems.
Each programme will run for four days from 20 -23 May at our Scotstoun site and 10 -13 June at our Govan site. They are open to young people aged 16 – 18 and applications can be made at the following link:
