Employer Working

Andrew Innis and Stuart Crawford Joiners and Builders.

Lochgilphead High School is very grateful to all our local employers who support us and help us to offer our young people a variety of opportunities. Recently S & C Crawford Building Contractors LTD have been involved with us by offering Work Placement to one of our S5 pupils, Andrew Innis. Andrew has been on a Flexible Learning plan which has involved him being on placement 3 days a week. Andrew is now leaving School to join S & C Crawford Building Contractors LTD on a Brick laying Apprenticeship.

Scott Cameron

Scott left school for a 4 year apprentice with Cameron Joiners and Builders in Carpentry and Joinery. The apprenticeship is in conjunction with Argyll College and he will spend varying amounts of time within the college throughout the span of the 4 years. The time spent in college with reference to year is as follows;

·         1st year- 19 weeks

·         2nd year- 12 weeks

·         3rd and 4th year- 1 week respectively.

One of the benefits of the partnerships the school has with working with small, local businesses and our rural location is how there can be a real feeling of personalisation. Within his apprenticeship with Cameron Joiners and Builders, Scott will benefit from one-to-one tuition from the boss. Another advantage of the smaller, more local businesses is that Scott can also get that chance to gain knowledge in the use of other machinery and tools that he may not necessarily have learned to use so early in an apprenticeship. Scott has been learning to safely use battery operated hand tools, and to operate a micro digger and a mini digger.

Scott is also learning to make a safe working environment for not only himself, but for those working around him.

This is not the only time Scott has worked alongside Argyll College, in the past Scott  took part in a flexible learning plan which seen him combine work experience with time in school/college, at the time, Scott planned to combine an Ormsary estates work placement with time spent in Argyll College.

Well done, and Good Luck Scott!
