Positivity - by Suzannah Whittle 1.mp4

Suzannah Whittle

Over the pandemic, social distancing and lockdowns have caused some challenges to arise when it comes to celebrations and the emotional connections we would normally have with gatherings of family and friends.

Suzannah really loves to perform and is comfortable doing so, she has used her talent to try and lift the spirits of not only herself and her family, but her friends, those in her wider community and anyone she can reach using online platforms to let them know everything is going to be OK. Suzannah has really excelled herself with her song called 'Positivity'.

She performed the song, along with her mum, Sarah, at the Craignish Cabaret and it has been uploaded onto the Melfort Ukuleles Facebook page for others to enjoy. Suzannah and her mum have uploaded little videos of them playing and singing for people's birthdays and other occasions.

They really have enjoyed being able to play together as a family as well as bringing 'Positivity' to others.

We spoke to Suzannah and as ever, she was modest, eloquent and inspirational in her thoughts, saying “at first it was supposed to be just a small song for one of my friends because she was struggling, then I realised that quite a few of my friends were struggling. So I made each verse of the song have a different theme, at first, everybody struggles, so there's a bit of struggling at first. Then you realise things can get better and when you are at the high point you try and make others feel better. So it's just going up and once you feel better you are able to help another person, then they will be able to make someone else's day”.

Suzannah reflected, “I am so grateful for my life, it's pretty nice and then the fact that I am able to help other people and make their lives better, it's just, worth it”.

S2 Scouts

A few of the S2’s took part in the Scout ‘Snowdrop‘ Challenge on the weekend of the 24th-25th of April.

The Scouts, Imogen Carbro, Louise Pendreigh, Sophie McCartan, Euan McCartan, Ross Davidson and Harry Turner all jumped at the chance to take advantage of the good weather and some social interaction.

The pupils had to hike 22 miles, this was broken up between the two days with the Scouts hiking 14 miles and 8 miles respectfully. Another part of the challenge was to spend two nights camping with cooking meals outdoors and taking part in other scout related activities as well as showcasing attributes such as leadership, teamwork and navigation.

The Snowdrop Challenge is a good chance for the older Scouts to go on an expedition that can contribute towards their Gold Chief Scout Award  and Bronze DoE Award.

Well done Scouts.
